10:53 pm - Howl
Running  Scared and Way of the Gun: both excellent movies.

Molly the terrier hates the phone. I don't bother to even answer my land-line anymore. Anyone who wants to talk to me calls my cell, so it's just spammers. The only reason I still have it is in case I lose the cell phone or something like that. Anyway, she hates it when it rings and if it goes on long enough she'll start to growl and then howl at it. This morning, Lacey the chihuahua tried to join in on the howling, something I'd never heard her do whatsoever. She did a fair job of it, too.

09:01 pm - Seven Weird Things

From

[info]texanadian. I saw it before, but decided to do it when I saw hers, purely randomly.
If you decide to participate, here are the rules:
1. Link to your tagger and post these rules on your blog.
2. Share seven facts about yourself on your blog, some random, some weird.

1 -- For a period of several years, I was apparently allergic to chicken. I'd get strange white bumps on my tongue or parts of my lip would swell. That seems to be over, now. In fact, I had Popeye's chicken for dinner.
2 -- There are more Robin action figures in my house than there are plants and pets combined.
3 -- I think that Buckaroo Banzai: Across the Eighth Dimension is one of the top 20 best movies ever made. To my knowledge, only one other person in the world shares this belief.
4 -- I have no nails on my big toes.
5 -- I have been within 50 feet of a wild black bear that was not in a zoo or other enclosure.
6 -- I own two peices of original art. One is a watercolor peice by Nathan Massengill before he got regular work. The other is a combo peice by Larry Dixon and Brian Stelfreeze.
7 -- I own a Jack Russel's Terrier

I graduate from university in roughly *checks clock* four hours.

Eeeee eeeee eeeee!!!

ahem. Gods but I'm so frakking nervous you wouldn't even believe it. I swear, my stomach's in a square knot! and I just deleted something partially and didn't think, and that sentence almost read 'my stomach's in a square!' Oops? Right. shaking fingers+caffeine+massive excitability and nerves=a babbling, rambling, squeaking Charlie who can't sit still. Good thing this chair rocks.

I promise a more coherent, long overdue update after the ceremonies, the sushi lunch (I sure hope it isn't too crowded to sneak us in, though I'd imagine it wouldn't be as, well, sushi place in a small town) and the kitty shelter visit. My whole family's coming, including Allie who took the day off work, and I want to at least introduce my folks to Jana and Lela and everybody... and of course, I'm going to try and talk as many of them as I can into meeting Daisy. And Dmitri. And Lil Girl. and Ginger. And... everybody else, if possible. I'm so transparent it's not even funny and you know? I rather like it that way sometimes.

But right, yes. Coherency later. Right now? Excitement and nerves! XD

01:10 am - Uh oh...
"I haven’t even told Steven or Harrison this," he said. "But I have an idea to make Shia [LeBeouf] the lead character next time and have Harrison [Ford] come back like Sean Connery did in the last movie. I can see it working out.

You have an idea? Nawwwwww.

"And it’s not like Harrison is even old. I mean, he’s 65 and he did everything in this movie. The old chemistry is there, and it’s not like he’s an old man. He’s incredibly agile; he looks even better than he did 20 years ago, if you ask me." - George Lucas

Well... uh... guess... Oh, shut up, George Lucas.

You know, when people were predicting that very thing, I don't think they actually wanted it to happen.

Still, I guess I better truck on with my begrudging Shia support, and he's got some serious goodwill going from that MacGruber sketch so... uh.. Shia '08, or something. Just don't get arrested again, okay, kid?

What's his name gonna be though, Pennsylvania Smith?

Right there at the start? I could watch those two people on the drums, all day.

I have a job interview scheduled like next Tuesday or so and everytime I remind myself of it, my brain ends up breaking off at the medulla and running around the room going "ohshitohshit" before it gets tired and I stuff it back into my brain pan. Yeah.

12:51 pm - What makes a guru?
Last night, after my second trek over that damn bridge (I really need to fix my bike) I'd made it alive up Flatbush and then up Dean St. Here I smelled an odor, and I think you've been in the city too long when the first thing that pops into your head is "Is that garbage or lilacs? Garbage or lilacs... it really could go either way." I then realized it was neither; it was mortar.

So we caught an advance screening of The Love Guru, once again cementing Mike Meyers' love of ironic music covers (This one featured Dolly Parton's "9 to 5" and Steve Miller Band's "Joker", to name a couple.) Movie started out stronger than one might expect, due largely to a rather amusing premise, some plays on race with apparently the world's only black hockey player, but most of all, Justin. Justin plays a French Canadian hockey player nicknamed "Le Coq" for a very cheap reason, and out of all the superfluous penis pun related humor in the thing (and I would say over half of the movie is just that), Justin's is, of course, the strongest. No pun intended.

And, not surprisingly, horrible French accents and personal biases notwithstanding, Justin is the greatest joy in the movie, especially considering how much painful mincing Mike Meyers, the movie eater, so often is, and he can be painful. The hour or so I stood in line was totally worth it to see Justin's empathetic singing along to several Celine Dion songs. You gotta love a boy with no shame.

But perhaps the most fascinating thing about this movie is the fact that it is effectively about exploring underlying psychological issues to the problems in your life. Hey, movies never do that! Problems with parents inevitably leading to problems with intimacy, of course, and the movie actually rather smartly addresses potential problems that might arise! Go, movie! Of course, these problems go away the very instant they are addressed, as psychological problems are wont to do, but hey, they tried!

Jessica Alba is her own other form of impressive, however, in that she continually impresses me in how awful her career moves are. That said, this is actually probably a step up from Fantastic 4 and Good Luck Chuck, and I will give the movie credit for giving a rather sad and pathetic yet totally buyable reason for someone so hot and apparently adorkable to be so hated by an entire city. Go, sports fans!

In short, it actually wasn't bad. Certainly nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be. Of course, that's not to address the rather glaring racist/culturalist issues we've got going on, or Mike Meyers' disturbingly adorable Indian buttboy who follows him around the whole movie. That, and I'm almost certain that only Brahmans can become gurus. White people... really can't be Hindu gurus. Correct me if I'm wrong?

Come for roughly half the cast of the Daily Show/Colbert Report. Stay for the Justin. He makes my heart go on.

Oh, and Kanye's professed love of hockey!
